Our Spring Mattress // WOOL // COTTON // POCKET COIL SPRINGS //

A classic, century-old design, the Suffolk combines a durable, high quality spring with thick layers of cotton and wool in an organic cotton case. This mattress is flippable and rotatable, which allows the natural fibres to rest and bounce back after being compressed. Easily our most popular option for children and teens, but a favourite for all ages.

Firmness

This is a medium-firm mattress (#4 on our 1-5 scale), perfect for those who like a little softness with plenty of support.
*Please note: unlike our other mattress models, the firmness of the Suffolk cannot be adjusted.

The Suffolk has a 12" depth.

We adhere to standard dimensions as much as possible. Please note the dimensions are give or take an inch, as our mattresses are handmade and materials can vary.

Materials

Pocket coil springs are the most popular with adults, as they provide ample support with some contouring effect (to ease pressure points), and minimize movement transfer between partners.

Care

This mattress must be flipped once every 3 months at a minimum. We strongly recommend making sure you have the proper foundation to support your mattress. For more information visit our Choosing a Foundation page.

We got the Suffolk mattress with a wool topper and wool duvet. Ever since day one we've had amazing sleep. The Suffolk gives the support and firmness needed while the wool topper adds the hugging coziness. Even better it is all natural so no weird off gassing smells or chemicals. The construction is also top notch, everything from zippers to stitches to thickness of fabrics. I can't wait to break it in this mattress some more. Extremely happy with my purchase and would recommend this combination to everyone.

I really like this bed. I'm a side sleeper so it's a bit too firm for me but I like firmer beds and adding a mattress topper made it the most comfortable bed I've ever had. I've been sleeping on it for 3 months and 1 month with the topper. I've been getting way better sleep than on my old memory foam even before adding the topper.

Following a little research, I soon found Black Sheep Mattress Company to be top of the line as far as the ethics of the product they manufacture as well as their unrivalled service. Every step of the process was flawless from the lovely and accommodating sales person in their Toronto shop to the delivery person that brought my Suffolk mattress to my home. Though I would probably order one up on the softness scale next time, I love my mid range firmness mattress. (I took the chance without making the trip to testing showroom model against their suggestion ;) It is obviously extremely well made with sustainable materials by an impressive company! I hope Black Sheep considers making daybeds and other furniture in the future as there are many of us whom I’m certain would support this impressive company in their goal to provide a high quality product in an eco friendly manner out of natural materials.
