The Art of Sound Bath: Restorative Rest Practices with Sacred Air

Holistic well-being extends beyond crafting natural mattresses, it’s an everyday commitment to self care through rest. We embrace practices that nurture both body and mind, upholding the importance of sleep in all of life’s facets. It was with this commitment in mind that we connected with Sacred Air founder Sandy Tut, to host a Yin Yoga and Sound Bath event in our Calgary showroom space. From the very early stages of this collaboration it was apparent that Sacred Air truly embodies the profound connection between quality rest and well being. We were able to sit down with Sandy to learn more about the practice of yin yoga and sound bath, and get some insight into best practices for winding out of our fast paced lives and into better rest.

Yin Yoga and Sound Baths

Yin yoga is a gentle practice targeting deep connective tissues, promoting relaxation and flexibility. By holding poses for extended periods, it encourages the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system, preparing the body for deep, restorative sleep. The ideal way to transition your mind from day to night. At our recent event, we welcomed guests to find stillness through introductory yin yoga, leaving the mats at home and opting to curate a flow easily integrated into any pre-sleep routine atop your mattress.

Sound baths are the ideal complimentary practice to yin yoga, immersing participants in soothing vibrations, helping to slow brainwave activity and facilitate transitions into restful states. Research indicates that certain frequencies can synchronize with our brainwaves, facilitating a transition from the overstimulated beta state to the more restful theta state. This shift aids in lowering cortisol levels, effectively moving us away from chronic fight-or-flight responses often triggered by modern stressors. Sandy Tut explains, "yin yoga and sound baths serve as profound tools to recalibrate our nervous system, fostering both physical and mental relaxation." This combination not only alleviates physical tension but also calms the mind, creating an ideal environment for quality sleep.

These practices serve as profound tools to recalibrate our nervous system, fostering both physical and mental relaxation, encourage a shift into the parasympathetic nervous system (commonly known as our "rest and digest" phase) and preparing the body for deep, restorative sleep. Even following a single session, Sandy's participants have experienced improved mindsets, relaxation, and calmer moods. Over time consistency with this practice translates to enhanced overall well-being and improved sleep quality.

Incorporating Sound Therapy into Daily Routines

Integrating sound therapy into daily routines can significantly enhance sleep quality and overall well-being. If you don’t have access to Sound Bath experiences near you, Sandy shared some additional strategies to incorporate sound therapy into your sleep hygiene routine:

Breathe Sound into Meditation: Engage in a simple meditation practice that involves humming or chanting the sound "aum." This practice can stimulate the vagus nerve, promoting relaxation and preparing the body for sleep.

Get on the Right Frequency: Utilize audio tracks that play frequencies associated with relaxation and sleep, such as delta waves. Spotify offers a great range of Hz-specific playlists included in your subscription.

Plugged in Listening: Taking a few moments to experience close range sound waves through headphones before entering your sleep cycle can enhance the effectiveness of this practice.

Sound Therapy Apps: Various apps like NuCalm, Calm, or StellarSleep offer soundscapes, binaural beats, and guided therapeutic meditations designed to promote relaxation and improve sleep quality.

Our recent collaboration with Sacred Air has illuminated the profound synergy between holistic practices and a thoughtfully curated natural sleep environment. By integrating meditative experiences like sound baths with our commitment to natural materials, we've witnessed firsthand the transformative impact on overall wellness and health.

As we look ahead, we're excited to share our next event in our series with Sacred Air. These unique opportunities to immerse ourselves in an evening of sound and soft movement have been such a wonderful way to connect and experience the impact of intentional relaxation. With limited capacity, we invite you to join our newsletter to be among the first to see the details and reserve your space in the experience.
